If timing gears are damaged, replace damaged parts.
If timing gears are not damaged, proceed to step 6.
Check for damaged or worn connecting rod bearings and wrist

If fuel injection nozzles are not damaged, dirty, or out of
adjustment, proceed to step 2.
Check for damaged head gasket.
Step 2.
If head gasket is damaged, replace head gasket (para. 12-4).
If head gasket is not damaged, proceed to step 3.
Check valves, guides, and springs for damage and wear.
Step 3.
If valves, guides, or springs are damaged or worn, replace as
required (para. 12-4).
If valves, guides, and springs are not damaged or worn, check for
worn cylinder walls or piston rings.
